Mansfield, AR., February 6, 2012 - Once again, Mansfield High School has been selected as one of 25 schools across the U.S. and Canada to receive a $2,000 Project Ignition grant for 2012.
The grant will be awarded on February 3 at 2:45 PM at a student assembly in the Mansfield High
School gym.
This marks the fifth time in the last six years that Mansfield has been selected among the top twenty-five high schools nationally in this driving safety education competition, and brings the grant award total to Mansfield to $10,000 since 2006. This year’s winning campaign at Mansfield is entitled “On My Honor”.
Project Ignition is a student-led teen driver safety program funded by State Farm and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC). It was developed because car crashes are the No. 1 killer of America’s youth. Through the Project Ignition competition, Mansfield students and student groups across the nation, are working to change that devastating reality.
If their safety campaign is selected at the end of the school year as one of the top 10, they are eligible to receive additional funding (up to $7,500) to extend their campaign and to participate in the National Service Learning Conference in Minneapolis MN in April, where they would showcase this campaign for greater teen driver safety.
“As the nation’s leading insurer of vehicles, State Farm makes it a priority to promote teen driver safety through programs like Project Ignition,” says State Farm representative Jeff Davis. “We believe in the power of young people to make a difference and are happy to join them in promoting teen driver safety. We especially want to congratulate the administration, faculty and student body at Mansfield for their outstanding achievement in being among the top 25 schools nationally for the fifth time.”
State legislators Bruce Holland of Greenwood, Terry Rice of Waldron, and Jon Eubanks of Paris were in attendance for the presentation made by State Farm agent Melody Rhodes of Greenwood. Rhodes and Ronnie Plummer of Waldron serve the Mansfield area for State Farm.
