WHY: To increase the graduation rate at Newark High School and help youth considered at-risk of dropping out to stay in school. Nationally a young person drops out of high school every 26 seconds. This is the second $10,000 grant State Farm has given to the C-TAG program. In the first year of existence, C-TAG students have demonstrated an increase in attendance, decrease in disciplinary referrals and an overall improvement in academic achievement.
As part of the program, the State Farm Young Business Professionals will again meet with 30 at-risk students to help them develop job related skills such as resume building, interviewing tips and discussing the importance of graduating high school.
Students will begin a financial literacy program helping them develop skills to make responsible decisions with their personal finances and participate in an on-site visit to State Farm and have the opportunity to shadow their career mentor.
