Wilmington community voted the no-kill shelter to the top in Cause an Effect program
Wilmington, NC - Local dog shelter Paws Place Dog Rescue announced Monday a $25,000 grant from State Farm®. The grant was awarded through the Cause An Effect program, a philanthropic initiative that allowed Facebook users to vote for their favorite Causes in the U.S. and Canada. Paws Place was one of 3,000 Causessubmitted to State Farm, and the Top 40 received $25,000 grants. Paws Place received 32,295 votes, the 5th highest vote count nationwide.

The shelter used the grant to purchase a new Pawsmobile, a van used to transport the dogs to adoption events and the vet. The former Pawsmobile had approximately 250,000 miles.
“Our original Pawsmobile was deteriorating right before our eyes, and we were wondering where the funds would come from to replace it,” said Paws Place Board Secretary/Treasurer Peggy Durso. “Cause an Effect was a very creative idea, and Paws Place, as well as other charitable organizations, will benefit greatly from it.”
Paws Place accepted the award at Cutting’s office on Eastwood Road in Wilmington and showed off the new vehicle, which will allow the shelter to now take large dogs to events.

Paws Place Dog Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill dog rescue organization serving Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties in southeast North Carolina. The group also provides learning and leadership opportunities to students about the importance of spaying and neutering, the need for preventive heartworm medication, and proper vaccinations to control rabies and other diseases.
