HS Awarded $2,000 grant for student teen driver safety campaign.
Ponchatoula, LA February 10, 2012 - Ponchatoula High School has been selected as one of 25 schools across the U.S. and Canada to receive a $2,000 Project Ignition grant for 2012.
PHS students will use the funds to develop a program called "Project Think", a week focused on preventing distracted driving.
Project Ignition is a student-led teen driver safety program funded by State Farm in coordination with the National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC). It was developed because car crashes are the No. 1 killer of youth in the nation. Through the Project Ignition program, Ponchatoula students are working to change that devastating reality.
If their safety campaign is selected at the end of the school year as one of the top 10, they would be eligible for additional funding (up to $7,500) to extend their campaign and to participate in a national 'service-learning' conference in Minneapolis MN, where they would showcase their campaign for greater teen driver safety.
