Raising Awareness 4 Brandy Earns West Valley High DECA a $2000 Grant in National Competition
Spokane, Wash. March 27, 2012 – Raising Awareness 4 Brandy (R.A.B.) is a campaign created by DECA students at West Valley High School that has received national recognition from State Farm Insurance’s Project Ignition competition.
West Valley is one of just 25 winners across the US and Canada in the company’s auto safety grant competition. Project Ignition, in its eighth year, is a student-led teen driver safety program developed because car crashes remain the No. 1 killer of youth. These local teenagers are doing their part to honor their friend, and change this sad statistic through peer coaching, education and a gentle reminder for your thumb.
“I know Brandy and her family very well and how their lives are forever changed; this is more than a program it is very personal to me,” said Jeri Mainer, Spokane Valley State Farm agent. “The R.A.B. thumb band is a constant reminder to drivers when they try to text and a great visual to curb distracted driving in our community.”
