Birmingham, AL., April 20, 2012 - One year after the historic tornado outbreak of April 2011, State Farm®, the state’s largest home and auto insurer, continues to help policyholders impacted by last year’s event. The destruction left behind from the April 27, 2011, tornado outbreak is another reminder of why residents should always prepare for severe weather season by updating their insurance policy and having an emergency plan in place in case severe weather strikes.
As of April 2012, State Farm has helped Alabama policyholders with more than 24,600 home and auto claims related to the April 27, 2011 tornado. So far the company has paid out more than $460 million dollars to Alabama policyholders who suffered losses in the April 27, 2011 tornado. “Policyholders who are still in the rebuilding process are encouraged to continue to work with their agent on any outstanding questions that may come up and on policy updates needed because of new purchases,” says State Farm spokesman Roszell Gadson.
State Farm has identified several policyholders in the affected areas who may be willing to share their tornado experience and recovery stories with the media. Reporters working on one year anniversary stories are encouraged to contact Public Affairs for more information.
