Hackensack, NJ, April 20, 2012 - State Farm® Insurance Companies awarded the Volunteer Center of Bergen County a $8,750 grant to help support several of the organization’s community initiatives. Over the past five years, State Farm and the Volunteer Center have partnered to implement various community based programs that enrich the lives of both the students and residents of Greater Bergen County.
“We are honored that State Farm is providing generous support for our Service Learning Conference, which will help schools and students connect academic learning with important needs in our community through service activities,” said Janet Sharma, Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. “We are also delighted that State Farm is lending a hand as a participant in the Northern New Jersey Business Volunteer Council and its Community Gardens projects in Englewood. State Farm is definitely a good neighbor, and we are very proud of the partnership between our two organizations.”
The Volunteer Center of Bergen County grant is comprised of three key programs. Throughout each program, students, residents, corporate and community partners are able to team up to address the service and volunteer needs of the area. The first component of the grant will help fund the Volunteer Center’s annual Service Learning Conference, while the second component will support the Community Food Gardens Project that brings healthy food choices to children in low-income areas. Finally, the grant will help support the Northern NJ Business Volunteer Council/Program, which is a group of 32 companies whose members work year-round to help low-income children and families in the community.
“State Farm has a strong commitment in New Jersey to support and develop the communities that we live and work in. As residents of Bergen County we all play a role in keeping our community educated, beautiful and safe,” said State Farm Agent Lori DeSimone Ramil. “State Farm is proud to partner with the Volunteer Center of Bergen County because we share their steadfast commitment to promoting and inspiring community based service.”

Each year State Farm awards grants to non-profit organizations, governmental entities, and educational institutions for programs that help make communities safer, stronger, and more educated.
