Tips for Customers Impacted by Wildfire

Helena, MT., July 2, 2012 - Our hearts go out to those affected by the MT wildfires. If you have been a part of the evacuations or if your property was damaged please review these tips:

• Take every precaution to ensure the safety of your family, follow all evacuation procedures and contact your agent as soon as possible for additional information on your policy and filing a claim.
• Save receipts for the additional living expenses you incurred during the mandatory evacuation. Your deductible applies but your Insurance will help cover items like food, hotel and gas regardless of whether or not your home was damaged.
• Now that local fire officials have allowed residents to return home please take the time to safely inspect your home for damage and make any necessary temporary repairs. Always save your receipts.
• Make a list of all personal property that was damaged by the fire, if possible, include the age of the item and the cost to replace it. Your Homeowners Policy also provides coverage for refrigerated products due to loss of power as a result of a wildfire so make a list of any spoiled groceries as well.
• Your local agent can answer any questions you have and help you report a claim.

We have already received a few claims and expect that number to grow as people have time to get home and inspect their property for fire, smoke and tree damage. We encourage everyone to follow the instructions of local officials, especially if another evacuation is issued, and contact your agent as soon as possible to report a claim.
