Jackson, MS - August 24, 2012 - Want to be responsible for $5 million in grant funding? The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is seeking board members to serve through 2014.
The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is comprised of 30 young adults ages 17-20 from communities across the United States and Canada. The board's mission is to oversee $5 million in grant funding to address pressing issues that have a direct impact on communities. Youth Advisory Board members are responsible for identifying these issues, selecting the grant recipients, providing technical assistance to the grantees, and assisting with communication and outreach.
"Being on the State Farm Youth Advisory Board has allowed me to share my passion for service-learning with other highly motivated young people, and helped develop me as an individual," said Sean Russell, a 20-year old current board member from North Port, Florida. "It's enlightening to see a corporation that realizes the power youth can bring in creating long-lasting change."
Since 2006, the Youth Advisory Board has given grants to 329 communities, totaling over $20 million. The board members meet face-to-face three times per year. More information about expectations for members can be found on the YAB website.
"State Farm has long believed that for communities to thrive, young people must be empowered as leaders and decision-makers to address real issues. We're excited to engage youth in our work and to have them help us foster youth-led service-learning programs and community enhancement programs in communities across the United States and Canada," said Kathy Payne, Senior Director of Education Leadership.
The application deadline is October 1, 2012. Selected applicants will be notified by November. Information and applications are available at: www.statefarmyab.com/apply/the-board.
