Springdale, AR (February 01, 2013)
Har-Ber High School has been selected as one of 25 high schools from across the United States and Canada to receive a $2,000 Project Ignition grant. Project Ignition is a service-learning teen driver safety program sponsored by State Farm® and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council®.
This grant will support the Har-Ber campaign entitled T.a.D. (Texting and Driving), which will involve a student produced documentary, a plan to show the video in Springdale District schools, and sponsor a Driving Safety Fair at the school in the spring. The faculty advisor for the Har-Ber project is Debra Lamb.
Proposal evaluations consider creativity, clarity, design, practicality, and potential for influence or impact.
State Farm spokesman, Gary Stephenson, of North Little Rock, said, “Auto crashes remain the number one cause of death for teens in this country. We are very pleased to see Har-Ber students involved, and being recognized for their plans to help reduce teen auto crashes.”
Har-Ber was the only Arkansas school to receive a Project Ignition grant for the 2012-2013 year. Previous winners have been Fayetteville HS (twice) and Mansfield HS (five times).
Har-Ber’s project will be developed and conducted during this spring semester, and judged in May along with the other twenty-four recipient school campaigns. Of those, ten will be selected to receive additional $2500 Leader School grants to further develop their campaigns, and also receive travel funds to attend the National Service-Learning Conference in March, 2014.
Springdale is served by State Farm agents Walter Chastain, Phil Ford, Taylor Hudson, Jan Phillips, and Tim Pruitt. For more information on Project Ignition, go to www.sfprojectignition.com.
