Boise, ID (April 12, 2013) Boise State's College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) has been awarded a $35,000 State Farm Good Neighbor Citizenship grant for the Cultivating Community project.
CAMP Students, BSU Faculty and State Farm Representatives
Local State Farm representatives Kathleen Rankin, Brandon Starwalt, Kim Copat and Debbie Dinehart will present the grant to Scott Willison, director of the Center for Multicultural and Education Opportunities, on April 16.
The presentation will take place during a showcase event that gives students a chance to talk to local professionals about different careers and job opportunities and interview for summer internships. The showcase event takes place from 1-3:30 p.m. in the Student Union Lookout room. CAMP and Boise State's High School Equivalency Program sponsor the showcase.
The Cultivating Community project engages CAMP students as leaders, mentors and partners to educate others about the path to college and excellence in higher education. The project also teaches students personal financial literacy and auto safety.
In today's more socially conscious environment, consumers want to know what corporations stand for and what they are doing, as well as what they are saying, said State Farm sales leader Debora Dinehart of Boise. As well as supporting CAMP through grant monies, we're also pleased to act as volunteers, mentors and employers supporting the students and their goals for success.
Willison said, State Farm's support helps us provide the counseling, tutoring, and mentoring that contribute to the success of our students.
The Good Neighbor Citizenship program is the umbrella program for State Farm and the State Farm Companies Foundation charitable efforts, including volunteerism.
CAMP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to help migrant or seasonal farm workers and their children go to college. CAMP offers academic and personal support throughout college. The program also helps participants secure jobs, internships, grants, and scholarships to finance college after the first year.
