State Farm Agent Derek Gromko ensures safety on the road
Cheshire, CT (March 19, 2013) Learning to drive is a classic rite of passage for any young person, but along with the excitement and the freedom of driving come new responsibilities. State Farm and the Cheshire Police Department recently partnered to ensure that teen drivers know these responsibilities.
With a grant of $7,000, the police department will provide support to local high schools and their teen drivers. The program will concentrates on interactive exercises and demonstrations to highlight the dangers associated with driving under the influence and while distracted. Tools, such as Impairment Simulation Goggles will be used to show participants the impact of distractions (intoxication, using cell phones and/or texting, etc.) while driving without the actual danger.
State Farm Agent Derek Gromko was on hand recently to present the grant and thanked the police for their commitment to this effort. Because motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens in the U.S., we're looking to support driver safety programs that truly have a positive impact on young drivers. said Gromko. He went on to say, This hands-on approach helps teens see the impact of their decisions, and understand the great responsibility of being a safe driver.
While media campaigns work to provide information on safe driving issues, hands on learning always works best with teens. The hands-on program will be supplemented by classroom and media presentations.
The program will be offered to Junior High School students and during community events, when applicable. The program is also intended to be offered to other Connecticut police departments to compliment any programs they are currently offering.
