Kalamazoo, MI (March 26, 2013) State Farm has awarded Lowell High School with a $10,000 grant to benefit projects involving leadership and service learning, which will positively impact both middle and high school students.
Teens from Lowell High School will join together for the purpose of developing leadership skills necessary to become effective leaders. The program is designed around interactive simulations, trainings, cultural diversity, social justice, and service-learning, and will unite together diverse group of students within Lowell High School to learn, teach, and work together to address issues in the community.
Student leaders address identified issues within the high school such as bullying & destructive behaviors utilizing service-learning. Students will partner with other groups within the school such as: Student Council, National Honor Society, Interact, and FFA to bring a collective impact to identified issues.
Students will also develop a mentoring program with middle school youth preparing them to become leaders. High school students will share what they have learned, prepare trainings, and do joint service-learning projects with middle school students building a foundation within their school for leadership.
