Olivet College was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from State Farm Insurance Companies in support of its Charles Trubac Endowed Scholarship. Trubac, who previously served as regional vice president of State Farm, is a trustee emeritus of the college and a founding member of its Risk Management and Insurance Center.
“State Farm proudly supports Olivet College and the work they do in educating the future of the insurance workforce,” said Nick Metzger, community relations specialist for State Farm. “We are excited to be able to also honor one of our company’s leaders through support of the Charles Trubac Endowed Scholarship Program, and congratulate all those who are recognized as recipients.”
Established in 1992, the Charles Trubac Endowed Scholarship is currently awarded to an insurance and risk management student exhibiting financial need, with preference given to employees of State Farm and their dependents.
A longtime supporter of Olivet College, Trubac was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, during the college’s Commencement ceremonies in May. Throughout his career, he has achieved many accomplishments that have positively impacted the companies he has worked for, as well as the insurance industry and the greater community. He began in 1951 as an agent for State Farm Insurance in Washington, D.C. Four years later, he was appointed agency manager and progressed through other management positions to deputy regional vice president of the regional office in Frederick, Md. He came to Michigan as regional vice president in June 1971. The Michigan office grew substantially during his tenure. At the time of his retirement in 1992, there were nearly 1,700 employees, 730 agents and 50 agency managers. The companies serviced 1.2 million auto policies, 760,000 fire policies, 200,000 life policies and 42,000 health policies for earned premiums for Michigan totaling nearly $1 billion.
The Risk Management and Insurance Center at Olivet College is frequently recognized as one of the finest undergraduate programs in the nation, and consistently graduates students prepared and qualified to serve the insurance, risk management and financial planning industries.
