If cupid struck you with the love bug this year, you might want to light some candles for Valentine's Day for some extra romance. Just make sure you don't light your date's hair on fire, too. More than half of all candle fires start when flammable objects, like hair or curtains, are too close to the flame.
Thirty-six percent of candle fires start in the bedroom, and half are between midnight and 6 a.m. Falling asleep is a factor in 12 percent of home candle fires and 36 percent of the associated deaths.
Always keep burning candles within sight and use candles only in rooms where there is a responsible adult to control and oversee the flame. Reduce your risk of a destructive candle fire:
