State Farm Supports Safe Teen Driving

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. State Farm is committed to helping end these tragedies. Our teen driving website is full of resources for both new drivers and their parents to help navigate the rules of the road while learning to drive.

We’re committed to educating and promoting safe driving in Ohio through a number of organizations and programs throughout the state:

Click it for a Ticket -. A sponsor of University Hospital’s ‘Click it for a Ticket’ initiative, we’re hoping to have a positive impact by encouraging teens in Cuyahoga County to buckle up. Students who are spotted driving onto school grounds wearing seat belts are given tickets for good safety practices that can earn them cash and prizes.

Project Ignition – Two schools in Ohio – E-HOVE Career Center in Milan and Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine– were selected for the Top 25 nationwide winners for Project Ignition, a grant program that utilizes service-learning to address teen driver safety issues through student-led campaigns – but the ripple-effect the program creates is anything but simple.

Stark County Sheriff – A $10,000 grant from State Farm provided an interactive virtual driver program called V-TEC.  The program addresses distracted and impaired driving and is geared towards teens?

Ohio 4-H Fund – State Farm provided funding of $50,000for the Ohio CARTEENS Chapters around the state, allowing them to purchase driving simulators and concussion kits that teach teens about the dangerous consequences of risky driving behavior like speeding and not wearing seat belts.

Research & Education to affect change - Our latest study, conducted by Harris Interactive, shows the majority of teens with driver's licenses (57 percent) admit to texting while driving, despite the widespread attention surrounding the dangers of this risky practice. In the survey, fewer teens view texting while driving as leading to fatal consequences as compared to drinking while driving.

The survey also affirms the vital role parents play in keeping their new drivers safe behind the wheel. Teens who refrain from texting while driving were much more likely to report having frequent talks with their parents about safe driving. In the survey, more teens who never text and drive talk to their parents very often or sometimes about driving (82%) compared to teens who do text and drive (67%).

Celebrate My Drive™ (CMD) -  Make Safe Driving Fun Celebrate My Drive™ is one special day, Saturday, September 15, 2012, for the community to rally around and support teens everywhere as they learn to drive and get ready for the road ahead.
