- State Farm BankÆ Full Service Financial
Bank Customers Offered Deposits
Into Their Accounts
On February 12, 2010, State Farm Bank® customers and non-customers reported receiving emails soliciting a loan to assist a foreign investor with purchasing land or to receive a charitable donation. Once the recipient responded to the communication further instructions were emailed to them. Instructions varied, however, they were told that they must open a State Farm Bank checking account and enable on-line access. The individuals were asked to open the account with the understanding they would receive loan proceeds, a charitable donation, or partnership in a land investment. Once the account is opened, funded, and online access enabled, the fraudster attempts to transfer funds electronically into the account in order to subsequently remove funds from the victims account at another financial institution.
