A: A valid US address is required to open a State Farm Bank account. If you have two residences, one inside the United States and one outside the United States, you can open a State Farm Bank account.

Q: Will alternative forms of identification be accepted to open a bank account?
A: Yes. A Matricula Consular or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) Card can be used as a secondary form of identification to open a deposit account. Eligible deposit accounts include: Checking, Savings, Money Market, and Fixed Rate CDs. The only secondary form of identification accepted when applying for other types of State Farm Bank deposit accounts, credit cards, or loans is an ITIN card. An account eligible to be opened with an alternative form of identification must be completed in a participating State Farm agent's office.

Credit Protection Questions & Answers

Q: What is the State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program?
A: The Credit Protection Program is a service offered to credit card customers to keep their credit card account in good standing if a qualifying life event would occur. In exchange for a monthly fee, the program will cancel the minimum payment due on their account for up to 24 months depending on the qualifying event.

Q: What life events are covered under the program?
A: The benefits of the program are summarized below. For specific details including Eligibility Requirements, Conditions, and Exclusions, click the Eligibility and Requirements link for each covered event.

Disability: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 24 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Involuntary Unemployment/Job Loss: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 12 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Accidental Death/Dismemberment: The program will cancel the total outstanding balance on your account up to $10,000 as of the date of the eligible event. More

Loss of Primary Residence: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 6 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Called to Active Military Duty: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 12 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Family Leave: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 3 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Overnight Hospitalization: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 1 month for each eligible occurrence. More

Disaster Relief: The program will cancel the minimum payment due shown on your monthly statement for up to 3 consecutive months for each eligible occurrence. More

Q: What does the program cost?
A: The cost of the State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program is $0.74 per $100.00 of each ending monthly statement balance. The monthly fee is calculated by multiplying $0.74 by the ending monthly statement balance divided by 100. Once you have had an opportunity to review the full coverage details, you may cancel within the 30 days of enrollment and receive a full refund of any billed fees. There is no fee if the ending monthly statement balance on the account is $0.00 or less. In order to avoid the monthly Credit Protection fee, you must cancel your coverage on or before the payment due date on your current statement.

Q: How do I sign-up?
A: The program will be available to State Farm Bank credit card customers. To enroll, call 1-877-SF4-VISA / 1-877-734-8472 and we will enroll your account over the phone. Within 10 business days, you will receive a Welcome Kit including the full terms and conditions of the coverage.

Q: How do I activate the coverage benefits?
A: To apply for benefits, you must call our State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program Administrator at 1-866-490-9838 or write to State Farm Bank, c/o Benefit Activation Department, PO Box 977122, Miami, FL 33197-7122. Once you apply for benefits, we will send a written verification form and a checklist of the evidence you must provide for the Covered Event.

Q: Can I activate benefits as soon as I enroll?
A: You are first eligible for State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program benefits 30 days after your enrollment date.

Q: Can I activate more than one benefit?
A: At least 30 days must pass between the date of a Covered Event and a new Covered Event. If two or more Covered Events occur within 30 days of each other, benefits will be administered under the Covered Event that occurred first.

Q: Can I continue using my card if I activate benefits?
A: Keep Using Card: In the event that you activate coverage, the credit limit on the account will be reduced to allow for a maximum available credit of $1,000.00. If the available credit at the time of activation is less than $1,000.00, that amount will be the amount of available credit.

Q: Can I be denied benefits?
A: You will NOT qualify for benefits if:

  • The Covered Event occurred prior to your enrollment in the program
  • You cancel program enrollment prior to notifying us of a Covered Event
  • You fail to notify us of the Covered Event within 180 days of the date of the Covered Event
  • You fail to provide our reasonably requested evidence within 30 days of the date of our request
  • Your account is two payments past due on the day we review your request to activate coverage.
  • You do not meet all criteria detailed in the terms and conditions

Q: How do I cancel the program?
A: You must give notice of cancellation by calling 1-877-734-8472 or writing to State Farm Bank, PO Box 84062, Columbus, GA 31908-4062. If you provide notice of cancellation within 30 calendar days after your enrollment date, we will credit your Account for any State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program fees you have been charged.

Q: Is the Credit Protection Program insurance?
A: No. The State Farm Bank Credit Protection Program is a service offered by State Farm Bank. State Farm Bank covers the minimum payments due on the account as an expense of the program. This product is regulated by the Office of Thrift Supervision, not by state insurance regulators.

Credit Safeguards

Q: What should I do if my Visa® credit card is lost or stolen?
A: Call us immediately at 1-877-SF4-VISA, or 1-706-644-0852 if calling from outside of the United States. Once you report your card lost or stolen, we will close the account and open a new account for you. A new card will be sent to you and all other persons listed on the account within 7-10 business days.

Q: Am I liable if my lost or stolen Visa credit card is used for unauthorized transactions?
A: No. If fraud occurs on your Visa account through no fault of your own, you will not be held liable as long as the fraud is reported in a timely manner. If you determine a charge has been fraudulently made, you will need to dispute the charge.

Q: How do I dispute a charge on my Visa credit card statement?
