Drive Safe & Save™

• Can I still enroll in the Drive Safe & Save program if my vehicle is equipped with OnStar but I do not have an active Onstar Vehicle Diagnostics subscription?

  Yes, as long as you plan to activate your OnStar subscription and enroll in OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics. State Farm® will request odometer information from OnStar approximately 30 days after you sign up for Drive Safe & Save. If we are unable to obtain odometer readings at that point, your State Farm agent will contact you. If you do not activate your OnStar subscription, we will remove the initial participation discount back to the effective date it was added.

• Whom should I contact with questions about activating OnStar or enrolling my vehicle in the OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics program?

  The best way to find out about enrolling your vehicle or activating OnStar is to either:

• Does OnStar start sharing my mileage with State Farm the day I sign up, or do they forward historical mileage as well?

  State Farm will request up to the six most recent historical odometer readings on your car but will not use any odometer readings that occurred prior to the date you purchased the car.

• How often is the Drive Safe & Save discount recalculated?

  Your discount may be adjusted at each renewal period, based on the collected driving information.

• Does enrolling in the Drive Safe & Save program guarantee me a discount?

  Most customers will see a discount with this program. However, if you are currently receiving a discount for low estimated annual mileage (under 7,500 miles annually for personal use) and your vehicle is actually driven more than that threshold, your premium may increase at a future renewal. Your State Farm agent can provide you with more details.

• What vehicles are eligible for In-Drive?

  Most 1996 or newer vehicles that are not equipped with OnStarŪ are eligible for this program. (OnStar-equipped vehicles are eligible for the Drive Safe & Save – OnStar program)

• Can I enroll multiple vehicles?

  Yes. Each device is assigned to one vehicle, and up to six vehicles may be listed under one In-Drive account.

• What if I am enrolled in this program and decide to sell or trade in my car?

  If you are replacing your vehicle, talk to your State Farm agent about the Drive Safe & Save options available for your new vehicle. If you are not replacing your vehicle, be sure to remove the device. You will be asked to return it.

• How do I cancel my enrollment in the Drive Safe & Save – In-Drive program?

  To cancel, contact your State Farm agent. You will also need to cancel your In-Drive subscription by calling 1-888-270-0267. You will receive a postage paid package to return the In-Drive Communicator, In-Drive Visor Clip, and car charger. Your In-Drive account will be charged $100 if you do not return your device within 30 days.

Data

• What driving data does the In-Drive device collect and how does it affect my Drive Safe & Save discount?

  The device collects the following data:

  • Miles driven
  • Accerleation
  • Braking
  • Right and left turns
  • Speeds of 80 mph or over
  • Time of day the vehicle is driven

  You can visit your personalized In-Drive Dashboard for tips for improving your driving behaviors.

• Does the In-Drive Communicator record speed limits or changes in speed limits in the areas where I drive?

  No. The In-Drive Communicator only collects the speed of your vehicle.

• What are the safest times of day for driving?

  Generally speaking, the safest times to drive are early morning or midday, Monday through Friday.

• Will my rates increase if I have to brake hard?

  Generally speaking, having to brake hard occasionally will not cause your rates go up. Overall, however, the safer you drive, the more you save.

• What speeds are considered dangerous?

  While Drive Safe & Save with In-Drive does not compare your driving speeds with posted speed limits, driving faster than the posted speed limit is generally considered dangerous. Speeds of 80 mph or over will affect your premium.

• Does the In-Drive device capture my vehicle location and share this information with State Farm?

  The device only provides the exact vehicle location information it needs to help ensure safety and security features such as stolen vehicle assistance, roadside assistance, and the Family Co-Pilot package. State Farm respects your privacy. We only receive information about the broad geographic areas in which your vehicle is driven. The size of these areas is approximately 40 square miles. State Farm will not receive the exact vehicle location.

• Will State Farm share my information with anyone else?

  State Farm will only share policyholder information as required by law and as stated in the State Farm Privacy Policy.

Devices

• What type of hardware is provided?

  Once enrolled in the program, you will receive a package containing your In-Drive Communicator, In-Drive Visor Clip, and In-Drive Visor Clip Car Charger.

  • The In-Drive Communicator is a compact device that plugs into your on-board diagnostic port (usually located underneath your dashboard near the bottom of your steering wheel base). This device collects your driving statistics so you can earn insurance discounts.
  • The In-Drive Visor Clip attaches to the driver side visor. With the touch of a button, it gives you access to emergency assistance, roadside service and hands free talking (available services subject to package type).

• Where do I install the device?

  Simply plug the In-Drive Communicator into your on-board diagnostic (OBD) port, usually located underneath your vehicle’s dashboard near the bottom of your steering wheel column. The In-Drive Visor Clip should be attached to the driver side visor. You will also receive a Quick Start Guide with your devices. For additional questions regarding installation, contact the In-Drive Support Center at 1-888-270-0267.

• Can I take the In-Drive Communicator out once I plug it in?

  Yes. However, to receive the full benefits of the program, the device must remain installed in the participating vehicle. The device may be temporarily removed for things like servicing your vehicle. However, if we detect that the In-Drive Communicator has been removed and installed in a vehicle other than the one registered for this program, you will be notified via email. Frequent or lengthy device removals may impact your eligibility for continued participation in the Drive Safe & Save with In-Drive program.

• Will the In-Drive Communicator start collecting my driving statistics immediately?

  The device will begin collecting your driving statistics on your first trip after installing it, so you can begin to drive safe and save. Some diagnostic information will be available online immediately. Most vehicle information will be available after a full month of data has been collected.

• Is there a charge for the In-Drive device?

  The In-Drive device is part of your subscription to the services of an In-Drive package with Hughes Telematics, Inc.

• What if my In-Drive devices are lost or stolen?

  Call the In-Drive Support Center at 1-888-270-0267. The Customer Specialist will be able to assist you with replacements. If your Visor Clip Car Charger is stolen, you can use any standard car charger with a micro USB connector to charge it. The In-Drive Visor Clip can also be charged on most laptops and computers with a standard micro-USB cable.
