Auto Insurance Discounts in New York

Accident-Free Discount (State Farm Mutual Only)

If your car (or car it replaced) has been with State Farm for at least three years without a chargeable accident during this period, you will receive a discount on the premiums for Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability, Basic Personal Injury Protection, and Collision Coverages. This discount may increase over time if the policy remains in force and there continue to be no chargeable accidents. For new business, an accident is chargeable if the operator was at-fault in an accident that resulted in death or bodily injury or in damage to any property in the amount of $1,000 or more.

For subsequent rating, an accident is chargeable when State Farm paid $1,000 or more under the Property Damage Liability Coverage and Collision Coverage combined. For a multiple vehicle accident, Property Damage Liability Coverage payments must have been made for a claim to be considered chargeable.

Accident Prevention Course Discount

You may be eligible for this discount if the following requirements are met:

• The principal operator of the vehicle has successfully completed a Defensive Driving Course,  approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
• A certificate must be presented to State Farm certifying the course was voluntarily taken and successfully completed within the past three years.

Anti-Lock Brake Discount

You may qualify or this discount if your vehicle has a factory-installed anti-lock braking system, you can receive a 5% discount on the premiums for Liability, Basic and Additional Personal Injury Protection, Optional Basic Economic Loss, Medical Payments, and Collision Coverages.

Anti-Theft Device Discount

You may qualify for this discount on Comprehensive Coverage if you have certain anti-theft devices on your vehicle. The discount varies depending on the types of devices installed.

Daytime Running Lights Discount

You can receive a 3% discount if your vehicle has daytime running lights. The discount applies to the premiums for Liability, Basic and Additional Personal Injury Protection, Optional Basic Economic Loss, Medical Payments, and Collision Coverages.

Driver Training Discount

You may be eligible for  this discount if each owner or operator, other than a married female, who is under 21 years of age and resides in the household or usually operates the vehicle, has successfully completed an acceptable driver education course that:

• Provided at least 24 clock hours of classroom instruction; and
• Included:
  • Six hours of actual driving under the personal supervision of a certified instructor, or
  • A minimum of three hours actual driving coupled with at least twelve hours of training in an approved practice driving device.

Good Driving Discount

You may be eligible to receive this discount if each of the drivers in the household has had no moving violations and no at-fault accidents during the past three years. The private passenger vehicle receiving the discount must also be insured with State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company.

Note: All driving history will be verified at the time an application is submitted for insurance

Good Student Discount

All male and unmarried female drivers under 25 who are full-time students in high school or at a college or university, and the scholastic records for the immediately preceding school semester show that this student meets at least one of the following:

• Ranked scholastically in the upper 20% of his or her class.
• Had a grade average of B or higher.
• Had a grade point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher.
• Was included in the Dean's List or Honor Roll.

Persons under age 25 who have graduated from a four-year college or university and have a cumulative scholastic record meeting the above requirements may also be considered.

Students who are enrolled in a home study program may qualify if they satisfy the scholastic requirement by submitting evidence that they ranked in the upper 20% on one of the following national standardized tests, administered within the last 12 months:

• PSAT
• PLAN
• SAT-1
• ACT
• TAP
• California Achievement Test

Note: Proof of eligibility is required when an application for insurance is submitted.

Multiple Automobiles Discount

You may be eligible for this discount if you meet all of the following criteria:

• There are two or more private passenger automobiles primarily driven by persons residing at the address.
• The vehicles are insured with State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company or State Farm Fire and Casualty Company.
• The owners of the vehicles reside in the same household and
  1. are related by marriage, blood, or adoption, or
  2. for two unrelated owners, they must jointly own the vehicles and both be designated as named insureds on the policies.
     

Multiple Line Discount

You may be eligible for this discount if you are the named insured on a qualifying State Farm Fire, Life or Health policy.

Passive Restraint Discount

Vehicles equipped with a factory-installed air bag or other passive restraint system which meets federal safety standards will receive a discount on the premium for Basic and Additional Personal Injury Protection and Optional Basic Economic Loss.

Steer Clear^® Safe Driver Discount

Steer Clear Safe Driver Discount - In order to initially qualify for this discount, the following requirements must be met:

1. All male and unmarried female drivers under 25 years of age who are assigned to the automobile must:
   • have no at-fault accidents or moving violations in the three year period prior to the time the discount is initially applied (Note - In some states certain accidents and moving violations may not disqualify you), and
   • have successfully completed the State Farm Steer Clear program, which needs to be administered by a State Farm agent. The program includes the driver watching a video presentation, reading a safe-driving magazine and completing a driver's log to document driving experiences.

Vehicle Safety Discount

1994 and newer model year private passenger vehicles may receive a discount on the premium for Personal Injury Protection based on the loss experience of that particular vehicle series.
