State Farm® unveils mobile catastrophe facility
On September 12, 2001, State Farm unveiled its first Mobile Catastrophe Facility (MCF), a unique, state-of-the-art custom designed claims office on wheels. A second MCF unit was added in May 2002.
The company's Mobile Catastrophe Facility (MCF) is a full-fledged catastrophe office contained within a custom-built 53-foot semitrailer. The unit, which can be deployed within 4 hours, can be on location anywhere it's needed in the continental United States within 48 hours.
Uniquely designed with 7-foot pullout sections on each side, the MCF provides more than 900 square feet of working space for as many as 50 people to handle claims during disasters such as tornadoes, hail storms, floods and hurricanes.
It arrives at the catastrophe-stricken area complete with furniture, equipment, office supplies, work stations, tents, power generators, phone lines, data ports, and a communication satellite, making it a totally functional resource that is not dependent on local utilities or communications resources.
The MCF's flexible design allows for even further expansion through the use of 25-foot awnings that extend from the side of each pullout. These additional work areas can be utilized as drive-through lanes to inspect damaged cars or as supplementary office space.
The unit furnishes the capacity for Claims employees in a catastrophe-stricken area to handle as many as 300 auto claims in one day. In 2000, State Farm handled more than 700,000 auto and homeowners catastrophe-related claims.
