  • Check with your claim representative before you discard any items you plan to claim as damaged.

After an injury

  • Promptly report it to your agent.

  • Obtain names and addresses of any witnesses.

Once we have received notice of your claim, a claim representative will contact you as soon as possible.

You may wish to obtain estimates from contractors experienced in repair work. If your loss is eligible, you may be interested in our State Farm Premier Service® Program.

Major damage may require contractor/engineer inspections.

Some repairs may not be covered unless you purchased a specific endorsement.

Make an inventory of Damage:

This inventory should be room-by-room, giving complete descriptions of the damaged property.

Personal Property Form

Following a personal property loss, you will need to provide an inventory of the lost, stolen or damaged items to your Claim Representative. You can provide the information your Claim Representative needs to settle your Claim by filling out a Personal Property form.

This form can be filled out online or you may print it and complete it by hand. After you complete the form you will need to print it and mail it or fax it to your Claim Representative. Please keep a copy of the completed form for your records.

Please review the instructions for filling out the form located on the bottom of the form.

Personal Property Inventory Form

If your home is uninhabitable:

  • Find temporary housing for your family (there is no coverage under the flood policy for this expense).
  • If possible, do not enter into any long-term leases until you talk to a State Farm claim representative.
  • Keep all receipts associated with the temporary housing, meals, and other miscellaneous expenses.
  • Payment for expenses that are beyond your normal living expenses may be available.

Claims against you

Should any party allege that you or any insured under your policy is responsible for bodily injury or property damage, State Farm will conduct an investigation to assess those allegations. Subject to the terms and conditions of your policy, State Farm Insurance will adjust those claims in which you may be legally liable.

Settlement

We will pay to repair or replace your damaged property subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.

Check with your agent or claim representative for complete details.

The claim payment may include name of your mortgage company. If it does, be sure to ask your mortgage company about their procedure for endorsing your claim payment.

This website contains only a general description of coverage, and is not a policy contract. COVERAGE UNDER ANY STATE FARM® PRODUCT IS SUBJECT TO TERMS, CONDITIONS AND EXCLUSIONS IN THE ACTUAL POLICY.
