Welcome to the Smoke Detectives®
fire safety web site!
The Smoke Detectives fire safety education
program has been provided free to educators and fire departments
for about 12 years. Your children may have used it in school.
We are happy to report that over the years
Smoke Detectives has become the number one fire safety classroom
education program. Even more important, we know that it has
helped save lives by giving children the tools and information
they need to remember and to follow simple safety procedures,
such as how to call 9-1-1 and how to exit a burning building
safely.
This web site enables us to bring these same
vital messages to you, your children and their teachers in
an even more compelling interactive environment. It has been
developed specifically for children between the ages of 5
and 11 (Kindergarten through fifth grade). Some of the written
material may be a challenge for younger children. Parents,
older siblings and teachers are encouraged to guide younger
children through the site and help them "grow into it."
As we have found with the original Smoke Detectives
kit, even pre-school children can begin building good safety
habits and learning procedures that can save their lives and
help others.
Here's how you can use the Smoke Detectives
web site to help teach your children vital lessons about fire
prevention and safety.
· Take a few minutes to explore Anytown
and meet the Smoke Detectives
characters who will introduce your children to some life saving
activities,
games, and information.
· Play the games so you can later play
and discuss them with your children.
· Review the information provided in
the Command Center
· Read through the activities in this
Parent section and print out safety
checklists and information sheets for home use.
· Talk with your children's teachers
about their plans to use lessons provided
in the Teachers section, which will enable you to coordinate
with classroom
efforts and reinforce the messages.
