Best thing about the internship

The internship at State Farm not only provided me with great experiences but also the opportunity to learn about a great company from fascinating people. State Farm values their employees and gives perks and benefits, e.g. the workweek is 38.75 instead of 40 hours, State Farm Park, and the pension plan. The Bloomington/Normal area has surpassed my expectations as well: I'm from a small town of 8,000...and I still felt at home among the 120,000 in the "big" city.

Greatest memory of the internship program

My greatest memory thus far would be the final touches on my project. I will always remember seeing my project grow from the beginning to end but especially when others began to use my project and compliment me about it.

Biggest challenge for you

My biggest challenge was during the beginning of my internship. As a mathematics major, I am used to following textbooks to complete tasks/homework. At State Farm you are given a problem, possibly that has never been "solved." The decision process and starting the project can be overwhelming. At the same time, completing a project that is yours is a tremendous feat.

Most surprising thing you've learned about State Farm

The family atmosphere at work - you feel like you are with family members, which makes work much more fun, entertaining, and easier to learn and perform.

One suggestion for incoming interns

My biggest suggestion to future interns is be prepared to think creatively and on your own. Another helpful bit of information is be prepared for a vast number of meetings - it may seem overwhelming but is a great opportunity to learn more about State Farm and the corporate lifestyle.

Reasonable Accommodation Assistance
