Help protect your family from electrical fires for free

State Farm® is offering free Ting sensor devices to qualified policyholders in Arizona, California and Texas.

Kids are running down the hallway in their house.

Electrical fires make up approximately 13% of all home fires, take hundreds of lives each year and amount to nearly $1.3 billion in annual home damage. Following a successful two-year pilot with employees and agents, State Farm is working with Whisker Labs to offer a Ting sensor to qualified policyholders in Arizona, California and Texas.

What is Ting?

Ting monitors the electrical network of a home using a smart plug-in sensor to help detect hazards, so they can be fixed before they have a chance to ignite a fire. The main precursors to electrical fires, micro-arcs and sparks that develop, happen in faulty wires, loose connections and faulty appliances or devices. These signs usually develop over weeks and months, so Ting is designed to provide you with advanced warnings to address these hazards prior to the hazard starting an electrical fire.footnote [1] Check out this video on how Ting works.

Ting may also help detect electrical faults in the utility grid that could damage your home and potentially trigger wildfires.footnote [2]

Who can receive a Ting?

To be eligible for a Ting device, participantsfootnote [3] must have an active State Farm homeowners, non-tenant insurance policy in Arizona, California or Texas, and have a smart phone and Wi-Fi coverage in the home.

If the above criteria are met, participants will receive at no cost:

  • Easy to install Ting sensor with monitoring service and mobile app access to real-time home electrical data and notifications
  • State Farm will pay the annual service fee to provide continual monitoring for three years
  • $1,000 credit toward remediation of electrical fire hazards (provided by Whisker Labs and subject to their terms and conditions)

Eligible policyholders may receive an email from their State Farm agent or enroll through other forms of marketing, when available. These may include (but are not limited to):

  • Direct mail
  • State Farm Mobile App
