Personal articles simplified
In many cases, gaming consoles are treated as “personal property,” covered under your Homeowners or Renters insurance policy. However, like other high value items in your home, they typically require documentation of ownership and proof of value. It’s wise to document proof of ownership and speak with a State Farm Agent about your coverage. We highly recommend creating an “inventory” of your personal property, and we have free tools that can help. Then, talk to your State Farm Agent about the right coverage for the value of your equipment. It’s possible your agent would recommend something like a Personal Articles Policy (or “PAP”) for increased coverage on your high-value equipment. In some cases, yes – up to your specific limits within your policy. However, if you have extensive or high-value equipment, you may want to consider an added policy that covers more than your typical renters or homeowners insurance. When looking to insure expensive electronics, such as a PC gaming system, a “Personal Articles Policy” or “PAP” is meant to give broader coverage (aka more/different events are covered under this policy that may not be under your renters or homeowners policy). A PAP = Personal Articles Policy. This type of policy can cover physical loss or damage to covered items. It’s usually purchased for “high value” stuff (fine art, jewelry, or in this case electronics) so you can repair/replace the item(s)…particularly if the item(s) are valued higher than what your homeowners or renters’ insurance covers.
Eligibility varies, so you may not need to be an existing customer to cover a gaming system through a PAP. However, if you’re inquiring about a console, you’ll want to verify it’s covered under your renters or homeowners insurance. A State Farm Agent is always willing to help, give them a call or send an email to discuss your needs!
