What to expect

  • When you request assistance, a service provider will be dispatched to assist you and take care of your Emergency Road Service need.
  • If your coverage is verified, you will not bear the up-front financial burden as State Farm will be billed directly for basic services. Note: You may incur out-of-pocket costs for replacement items such as tires, gas, and batteries.
  • If you do not have Coverage H (Emergency Road Service), you will pay for the services at a competitive rate negotiated by State Farm. This rate will usually be less than what is available in the market. (Examples of services can include the cost to deliver fuel)

Emergency roadside service FAQs

Not sure if you have Emergency Roadside Service coverage? No problem. Here's how you can check:

  • The back of your insurance ID card will say "Coverage H" if you have Emergency Roadside Service coverage
  • Contact your agent
  • Log into your account and view your coverages

Thinking of adding Emergency Roadside Service coverage to your policy? It could really come in handy, especially if you own an older, or less-reliable car.

Several factors determine the cost of Coverage H, so we can't tell you what you'll pay before giving you a quote. But we can tell you that most customers find Emergency Roadside Service coverage to be surprisingly affordable.

Emergency Roadside Service typically covers:

Towing your covered vehicle to the nearest repair facility if it's on a public road and can't be started or driven without causing damage.

Delivery of gas, oil, a battery or tires, as required to make your covered vehicle drivable. Note that delivery is covered, not the cost of the items themselves.

One-hour of locksmith services if the key to a covered vehicle is lost, stolen, or locked inside the vehicle.

One-hour of mechanical labor for:

  • Battery replacement
  • Electrical problems
  • Transmission issues
  • Fluid leaks (excluding fuel)
  • Other mechanical issues

With Emergency Roadside Service coverage:
Most of the time, the provider will bill State Farm directly, so you may not have to pay any upfront costs. You could still incur out-of-pocket costs for tires, gas, batteries, and similar items.

Without coverage:
If you don't have Emergency Roadside Service coverage, you'll need to pay for services, but since we negotiate lower rates with local service providers, you could save money by going through State Farm.

  • If you're in a dangerous area or someone is hurt, call 911.
  • If your vehicle is leaking fluids, move to a safe distance.
  • Be available in case State Farm, or our roadside partner needs to get in touch with you.
  • Keep your phone close and charged so we can call or text you with questions or status updates.
