The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that, in 2014, 17.5 million Americans were victims of identity theft, forcing them to spend a great deal of time and money repairing the damage done to their credit and finances.
While we can't protect you from identity theft, our identity restoration insurance can make the recovery process easier, faster, and less expensive.
This protection – costing just $25 per year – can be added to your State Farm home, apartment, condominium, manufactured home, or farm policy, and covers you, your spouse, and relatives / dependents (under 21 years old) living in your household.
Many insurers offer coverage that'll reimburse the money you spend attempting to recover your credit, but State Farm identity restoration insurance goes further.
If you're a victim of identity fraud while carrying State Farm identity restoration insurance, in addition to expense reimbursement, we'll assign a case manager who'll work directly with your credit card companies, credit bureaus, creditors, and other financial institutions for up to one full year for a covered incident.
Having a case manager working on your behalf can really streamline the process, but if you'd rather do the work yourself, your case manager can provide an identity recovery guide. This guide shows what to do after identity fraud, and includes examples of letters to send to creditors and credit bureaus, as well as other useful information to aid with the identity restoration process.
In addition to assigning a case manager for up to a year, we'll reimburse you up to $25,000 for necessary and reasonable expenses incurred to restore your identity. Here are some of the reimbursable costs covered by State Farm identity restoration and fraud loss coverage:
Beginning 2017, enhancements are being made to the Identity Restoration coverage to better protect your personal identity if you have an identity fraud case or are a victim of a cyber attack. Contact your agent to find out when the endorsements are available to you.
Pays for data recovery and system restoration costs as the direct result of a cyber attack involving a computing device.
A cyber extortion event includes a demand for money to restore access or functionality, or a threat to damage, disable, deny access or distribute content. Cyber extortion coverage pays for professional assistance from an expert and response costs for an insured who has experienced a cyber extortion event.
Cyber Attack and Cyber Extortion coverages are subject to a combined annual limit of $15,000.
Fraud Loss Coverage helps protect you if you have been a victim of a fraud event.
Identity restoration insurance won't keep you from being a victim of identity theft, but it can help make restoring your financial state less painful, and costly.
