The great thing about the amount of rent you're paying now for your apartment is that it's only 20 percent less than a mortgage amount you might pay. So let's pretend you're currently paying that mortgage. You'll pay for your rent, then the difference amount, that 20 percent goes into a separate bank account keeping it out of sight, out of mind. This does two things, it gets you used to paying those payments and it helps you save for that down payment.
