How to take a screenshot or clear cache

These instructions will teach you how to take a screenshot and clear your cache.

Occasionally you will have a need to capture what is displaying on the screen of your computer or personal device. Below are the instructions for most devices.

How to take a screenshot and email it

Taking a screenshot of your computer or personal device will create a picture of your screen that you can share with others through email. To perform a screenshot use the appropriate instructions below.

For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 computers:

  1. With the error window open, please press the "PrtScn" key along the top of your keyboard. (Be sure the URL in the address bar is displayed in the screenshot.)
  2. To open Paint, go to Start > Search > type in "Paint" and press Enter.
  3. Click or Tap on Paint.
  4. Once Paint is open, click on Edit, then Paste.
  5. Save the document, using File > Save, making sure you remember where you saved it.
  6. You may then attach the document when replying to an email.

To send the information to State Farm®:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject field: type in the Reference # at the top of the email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

For Mac computers:

  1. Switch to the screen that you want to screenshot.
  2. Hold down Apple key ⌘ + Shift + 3 and release all.
  3. Use your mouse to click on the screen.
  4. When done you will see the screenshot picture file on your desktop.
  5. You may then attach the document when replying to an email.

To send the information to State Farm:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject field: type in the Reference # at the top of the email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

Android device:

  1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously.
  2. Hold these down until your screen flashes.
  3. To view your screenshot, go to Gallery app.
  4. Look for Screenshot album and tap to open it.
  5. Tap screenshot you just took to view it.
  6. Press the "Share" button – represented by a sideways V shape that connects 3 dots.
  7. This should present the Sharing options, such as messaging or email.

To send the information to State Farm:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject field: type in the Reference # at the top of the email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

If your android phone has a Home button, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down Power button and Home button.
  2. Hold these until screen flashes.
  3. To view your screenshot, go to the Gallery app.
  4. Look for Screenshot album and tap to open it.
  5. Tap the screenshot you took to view it.
  6. Press the "Share" button – represented by a sideways V shape that connects 3 dots.
  7. This should present the Sharing options, such as messaging or email. Select your Email application.

To send the information to State Farm:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject field: type in the Reference # at the top of the email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

iPhone/iPad devices with Home button:

While on the desired screen, press the home button (round center button) and power button (top of phone) at the same time (Note: Do not hold these buttons down longer than 1 second). The screen will briefly flash white and the screen capture will be put in to the Photos application on the iPhone.

  1. Navigate to the Photos application by tapping the Photos application icon.
  2. Tap Camera Roll.
  3. Locate the screen capture. It should be the last photo taken.
  4. Tap the screen capture. It will display full screen on the device.
  5. On the lower left hand corner, tap the Action button (square with an arrow pointing up) to bring up the image options.
  6. Select Mail. The email application will open and the image will be attached to a new email.

To send the information to State Farm:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject field: type in the Reference # at the top of the email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

iPhone/iPad devices without a Home button:

While on the desired screen press the sleep/wake button and volume up button at the same time (Note: Do not hold these buttons down longer than 1 second). The screen will briefly flash white and the screen capture will be displayed as a small image in the lower left corner. Tap the small image to enlarge it, tap "Done" and tap "Save to Photos".

  1. Navigate to the Photos application by tapping the Photos application icon.
  2. Tap Camera Roll.
  3. Locate the screen capture. It should be the last photo taken.
  4. Tap the screen capture image. It will display full screen on the device.
  5. On the lower left hand corner, tap the Action button (square with an arrow pointing up) to bring up the image options.
  6. Select Mail. The email application will open and the image will be attached to a new email.

To send the information to State Farm:

  1. In the To: field type in sfics@statefarm.com.
  2. In the Subject: field type in the Reference # at the top of this email.
  3. Press the "Send" button.

How to clear cache

Clearing your cache will delete your browser history and help with loading time. Clearing a cache may also clear up issues with viewing web sites. To clear your cache, use the appropriate instructions below.

Clearing cache on Microsoft Edge:

  1. Select the three dots icon "..." in the top right corner of the browser window and select "Settings".
  2. Select "Privacy, Search, and Services" from the left pane.
  3. Select "Choose what to clear" from the Clear browsing data section.
    • NOTE: You can also access this menu by holding Ctrl + Shift + Delete. This will skip steps 1 through 3.
  4. Change the Time Range to "All Time".
  5. Check all boxes.
  6. Select "Clear now".
  7. Close all browsers to complete the action.

Clearing cache on Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. On your browser toolbar, click "More".
  3. Point to "More" tools, and click "Clear Browsing Data".
  4. In the "Clear Browsing Data" box change the Time range to "All Time", click the checkboxes for Cookies and Other Site" and plug-in data and Cached images and files.
  5. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data you want to delete. Choose "Beginning of Time" to delete everything.
  6. Click "Clear Browsing Data".
  7. Close all browsers to complete the action.

Clearing cache on Firefox/Mozilla:

  1. At the top right of the Firefox window, click on the button with three vertical lines.
  2. Select "Privacy & Security".
  3. Select "Clear Data…" from the Cookies and Site Data pane.
  4. Checkmark both boxes and select "Clear".
  5. Close all browsers to complete the action.

Clearing cache on Safari (Mac only):

  1. From the Safari menu, select "Preferences…".
  2. In the window that appears, click the "Privacy" tab.
  3. Click the button "Remove All Website Data".
  4. Click "Remove Now" in the pop up window that appears.

Clearing cache on Safari (iPhone/iPad only):

  1. Press Settings > Safari.
  2. Scroll down and tap "Clear History and Website Data".
  3. Tap "Clear History and Data".

Clearing cache on Android (phone):

  1. Go to "Settings" (gear icon).
  2. Scroll down and tap "Apps."
  3. Scroll down and tap "State Farm" app.
  4. Scroll down and tap "Storage."
  5. Tap "Clear cache" icon in bottom right corner.
