How to get an insurance card

You can view, print or email an insurance card, sometimes called an insurance ID card, online. It’s possible to request an insurance card mailed to you.

  • On the “auto policy information” page, click “view/print documents”
  • The Document Center will open an “ID card” electronic document

Other options

You can also contact your State Farm agent for a new insurance card

  • Request online to have an insurance card mailed to you

New policyholders

If you’re a new policyholder, you can download temporary insurance cards and your auto insurance binder.

Go to the My Accounts page secure message mailbox or through the confirmation email sent to you.

The temporary insurance card is available for 30 days after policy purchase.

Is my insurance card proof of insurance?

Yes, whether you keep it in your car’s glove compartment or your phone’s online wallet, your card is proof of insurance.

Who needs to see your insurance card?

You’ll need to show your paper or digital card in these situations:

  • At the DMV when you renew your license or license plate
  • To a police officer, if you’re stopped for any reason
  • If you’re in an accident, you and the other driver will need to present your cards to the officer on the scene
  • At the dealership, you’ll need proof of insurance before driving the car you’re buying off the lot
